The wisdom, creativity and undying passion of Carter Weitz, Bailey Lauerman’s Chairman and Chief Creative Officer, was featured in issue 359 of Graphis Journal. Graphis is an organization committed to presenting and promoting the work of exceptional, international creative talent in Design, Advertising, Photography, and Art/Illustration.
Carter discusses the beauty in simplicity, his work philosophy, and why collaboration is an integral piece of excellent work. “I often think of ideation as being like archeology: the amazing idea is buried under the surface someplace. You just have to know where to dig,” Carter says during the interview.
Rich Bailey, the agency’s founder, was also featured in the article, recounting the day that he hired Carter as a fresh kid out of the design program at Iowa State with one of the best student portfolios he had ever seen.
Several of the campaigns Carter has led over the past 25 years were included in the feature from The Special Olympics to Nebraska Tourism and Bass Pro Shops.
When asked how he defines success, Weitz said “I feel best about work that is grounded in strategy, contains a provocative idea, and is executed to perfection.”
